Canadian Customs Clearance — Done Right, Every Time

Customs clearance is one of the most complex and high-stakes elements of international trade. An incorrect HS code, a missing permit, or a wrong valuation can result in shipment holds, financial penalties, or outright seizure of goods. At Nuvotrade Logistics, our licensed customs brokerage team removes this risk entirely.

We are authorised to act as customs agent with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) for commercial importers and exporters. Whether your goods are arriving by ocean at the Port of Vancouver, by air at YVR, or by truck at any land border crossing, we handle the complete customs entry process with precision and full regulatory compliance.

Our team is well-versed in Canadian import and export regulations, free trade agreement preferences (CUSMA, CETA, CPTPP), controlled goods requirements, and CBSA audit defence. We don't just clear your shipments — we protect your compliance record over the long term.

  • CBSA import entry (B3 Form) filing for all modes of transport
  • HS (Harmonized System) tariff code classification
  • Customs valuation and duty/tax calculation and payment
  • Import and export permit applications (CFIA, ISED, ECCC, GAC)
  • Free Trade Agreement (CUSMA, CETA, CPTPP) preferential tariff claims
  • Export declaration (B13A) filing to CBSA
  • CBSA Release on Minimum Documentation (RMD) for faster release
  • Post-entry amendments and CBSA audit support

How It Works

Customs Clearance — Our Process

01

Document Review

We review your Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Bill of Lading or AWB, and any permits required. We flag any issues before the shipment arrives.

02

Entry Preparation

Our team classifies your goods, calculates duties and taxes, and prepares the customs entry (B3 or B13A) with full accuracy before cargo arrival.

03

CBSA Filing & Release

We file electronically with CBSA and pay duties on your behalf. For eligible shipments, we use RMD to secure cargo release before full accounting is finalised.

04

Confirmation & Records

You receive the CBSA release confirmation and a complete customs file for your records. We retain all documentation for CBSA audit purposes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Customs Clearance Questions Answered

The Harmonized System (HS) code is a standardised 6–10 digit number used worldwide to classify traded goods. In Canada, the full 10-digit tariff classification determines the customs duty rate, applicable trade agreement preferences, and any special import requirements (permits, inspections). An incorrect HS code can result in overpaying duties, underpaying and triggering CBSA penalties, or shipment holds. Correct classification is one of the most important customs compliance tasks.
Yes. Canada has free trade agreements with over 50 countries (CUSMA with the USA and Mexico, CETA with Europe, CPTPP with Asia-Pacific and more). If your goods qualify under one of these agreements, duties can be reduced to zero — but only if the correct preferential tariff claim is made at the time of import entry. We review your supply chain to identify FTA opportunities and claim them properly on your behalf.
Certain goods require import permits or special authorisation before they can enter Canada. These include agricultural products (poultry, eggs, dairy), firearms and weapons, certain chemicals and hazardous materials, textiles subject to quota, and goods from specific countries subject to sanctions. We identify permit requirements for your specific goods before shipment and handle the application process.
CBSA conducts physical and document examinations on a risk-assessed basis. If your shipment is selected, we coordinate the examination on your behalf, ensure all required documentation is available, and manage communication with CBSA officers. Examination costs (if any) are passed through transparently. With proper documentation and accurate entries, examinations are routine and do not result in penalties.
